Rome is where I live, and yet it never stops surprising me. Every time I photograph a wedding here — from the rooftop terrace of Palazzo Manfredi facing the Colosseum to a candlelit ceremony at the Basilica di Santa Sabina on the Aventine Hill — I discover a new corner, a different quality of light, another layer of this eternal city’s endless story.

As a Rome wedding photographer, I’ve worked at the city’s most prestigious venues: the 15th-century Castello Odescalchi at Lake Bracciano (where Tom Cruise married), the panoramic terraces of Villa Miani overlooking St. Peter’s, the Mirror Gallery of Palazzo Doria Pamphilj, and the intimate Secret Garden of Hotel de Russie between Piazza del Popolo and the Spanish Steps.

Wedding Venues in Rome

Rome offers an extraordinary range of wedding venues — from aristocratic palaces on Via del Corso to Baroque villas on the Janiculum and Monte Mario hills, from 5-star rooftop terraces with Colosseum views to centuries-old churches on the Aventine.

For grand celebrations, Villa Miani and Rome Cavalieri offer panoramic views of St. Peter’s dome and can host up to 500 guests. For intimate luxury, Palazzo Manfredi places you face-to-face with the Colosseum, while Hotel Hassler sits at the summit of the Spanish Steps. Just outside the city, Castello Odescalchi at Bracciano and Villa Aldobrandini in Frascati — where Lady Kitty Spencer married in 2021 — offer the drama of a castle or Renaissance estate within easy reach.

The Roman Golden Hour

The light in Rome has inspired artists for centuries. As the sun sets, it turns the travertine of ancient monuments to gold, creates long shadows across piazzas, and bathes the city in a warm glow that makes everything more beautiful. The Pincio terrace at sunset, the Forum at dawn, the cobblestones of Trastevere under warm streetlights — this is when Rome reveals its most romantic face, and when I create the most unforgettable photographs.

Elopements and Intimate Weddings in Rome

Rome is particularly magical for intimate celebrations. A small ceremony in a Renaissance chapel on the Aventine, followed by portraits at the deserted Forum at dawn, then dinner at a hidden trattoria in Trastevere — these experiences are possible only in Rome. Via Appia Antica, with its ancient paving stones and cypress trees, is one of the most atmospheric elopement settings in the world.

Beyond the Tourist Trail

As a Roman, I know the hidden gems: the lesser-known churches with spectacular frescoes, the secret gardens of the Aventine, the rooftop terraces with Vatican views, the neighborhood trattorias where real Romans celebrate. Rome’s two Fiumicino and Ciampino airports make it one of Italy’s most accessible destinations, and the city’s mild climate allows year-round weddings — from spring blooms at Villa Borghese to golden autumn light on the ancient stones.
