The Amalfi Coast has enchanted travelers for centuries — from the ancient Romans who built villas along these shores to Hollywood icons like Sophia Loren who called it home. This dramatic stretch of Campania coastline, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is today one of the world’s most coveted destination wedding locations, where vertical cliffs plunge into turquoise waters and pastel villages cling to impossible slopes.
As an Amalfi Coast wedding photographer, I’ve had the privilege of working at the coast’s most extraordinary venues — from the legendary Terrace of Infinity at Villa Cimbrone in Ravello to the candlelit elegance of Le Sirenuse in Positano, from the clifftop monastery of Monastero Santa Rosa in Conca dei Marini to the ancient grandeur of Hotel Caruso overlooking the entire coastline.
Wedding Venues on the Amalfi Coast
The coast offers a remarkable range of wedding venues spread across its most famous towns. Ravello, perched 350 meters above the sea, is the undisputed queen of Amalfi Coast weddings — home to Villa Cimbrone (where Greta Garbo famously eloped), Belmond Hotel Caruso, Palazzo Avino, Villa Rufolo (which inspired Wagner’s Parsifal) and the intimate Villa La Rondinaia, Gore Vidal’s home for over 30 years.
Positano, with its cascade of pastel buildings tumbling to the sea, offers a different kind of magic: the legendary Le Sirenuse, Villa Treville (once frequented by Maria Callas and Rudolf Nureyev), and intimate clifftop venues like Villa Magia and Hotel Marincanto. Further along the coast, Conca dei Marini is home to the exquisite Monastero Santa Rosa and the contemporary Borgo Santandrea, while Amalfi itself boasts the NH Collection Grand Hotel Convento — a 13th-century Capuchin monastery — and the refined Hotel Santa Caterina surrounded by terraced lemon groves.
Ravello: Where Wagner Found Paradise
Ravello occupies a special place in my work as a wedding photographer. At 350 meters above sea level, this “city of music” offers perspectives found nowhere else on the coast. Standing on the Terrace of Infinity with a couple as they exchange vows, the endless Mediterranean stretching below, is one of the most moving experiences in my career. Richard Wagner, Virginia Woolf, D.H. Lawrence and Gore Vidal all fell under Ravello’s spell — and every couple who marries here understands why.
The Positano Experience
Positano’s vertical landscape creates a visual drama that is impossible to replicate. The narrow stairways, hidden gardens, bougainvillea-draped terraces, and the views from every angle — each turn reveals a composition that seems designed for the camera. Some of my most memorable images have been captured in Positano’s labyrinth of steps and alleys, where the interplay of Mediterranean light and colorful architecture produces photographs of extraordinary beauty.
Coastal Journeys by Boat
Some of the most cinematic Amalfi Coast wedding moments happen on the water. A dramatic boat arrival at Positano’s beach, a private cruise past Praiano and the Faraglioni of Capri during golden hour, an intimate dinner on a secluded beach — the sea is as much a part of an Amalfi Coast wedding as the cliffs themselves. The coastline, viewed from the water, reveals a perspective of beauty that has drawn artists and lovers for millennia.
Your Destination Wedding on the Amalfi Coast
The Amalfi Coast is remarkably accessible for an international destination wedding. Naples International Airport is just 60–90 minutes away, and the Salerno Costa d’Amalfi airport offers an even closer gateway. Whether you envision an intimate elopement on a clifftop terrace in Ravello or a grand celebration in a Positano palazzo, the coast’s legendary hospitality, world-class cuisine and incomparable scenery make every wedding here unforgettable.
I consider it a privilege to photograph weddings along this extraordinary coastline, capturing the way Mediterranean light plays on ancient stone, the dramatic silhouettes against the sea, and the joy of couples who have chosen one of the most beautiful places on earth to begin their story together.
